I. Introduction
Before you get started, you need to familiarize yourself with the rules.
Although we have tried to cover most rules, these rules are by no means exhaustive, and each specific gaming division within the NRN will have its own specific rules. Make sure you’re aware of the rules specific to the games you play.
The NRN is based on a loose military structure (links to structure documents can be found at the end of this document), each member in the club holds a rank. Orders are rarely given, but when they are, they must be heeded. Should you be unhappy with an order, please contact a member of the DIA (Department of Internal Affairs) staff and they will help you, or if you prefer, contact your direct commanding officer or a member of the admiralty staff.
The NRN is an ‘Online Gaming Club’ established in 1997 with roots in old X-Wing Series based Star Wars games, we have grown to support a wide range of games and genres currently encompassing the following:
| FPS |
- Star Wars Flight Games |
| RTS |
- Star Wars First-Person Shooter (FPS) Games |
| MMORPG |
- Real Time Strategy (RTS) Games |
| Flight |
- MMORPG Games |
There are four main divisions that make up our fleet -
| Naval |
- Star Wars Flight Games |
| Marine Forces |
- Star Wars First-Person Shooter (FPS) Games |
| Strategic Command |
- Real Time Strategy (RTS) Games |
| Expeditionary Forces |
- MMORPG Games |
| 42nd Battle Group |
- Non-Star Wars FPS Games |
To facilitate communications between members of the fleet all personnel are required to have some form of instant messaging program installed. ICQ is recommended but many members are also on MSN, AIM, and Yahoo. A program such as Trillian, www.trillian.cc, can let you use all of those protocols from within one program and is the fleet recommended standard. If you get stuck contact an admissions officer and they will be happy to help.
Xfire is a game monitoring system that is combined with a friend tracker. People using Xfire are able to see what games their friends are playing and are able to join them. Download Xfire from www.xfire.com
For voice communications the NRN uses Teamspeak: www.teamspeak.org and we host our own Teamspeak server for all NRN members to enjoy. On the right hand side of this page you will see the server details, if you have any difficulties ask an admissions officer to help you.
On a weekly basis the NRN hold meetings via Internet Relay Chat. mIRC is a recommend IRC client and will allow you to attend the meetings, www.mirc.com. Trillian also has a built in IRC client which you may prefer. Attending at least 2 meetings a month is required for all NRN members however contact your CO if that is going to prove difficult for you.
II. The NRN Code-of-Conduct (CoC)
“No NRN member is to mock, putdown, belittle or bully another person”
No matter what is or was said, we do not want the NRN to stoop down to the level of making fun of people to feel good. A mature attitude is a requirement to stay in the NRN.
“Be courteous and observe good ‘sportsmanship’ at all times”
When playing games, be polite, don't say something like, "Man we kicked your butt so bad your great grandkids are gonna feel it!" Thatis not a good attitude to have and is not conducive to good relations with other organizations.
“Do not swear/curse”
This includes masking expletives with asterisks e.g. **** - We aren’t trying to regulate how you speak to your friends, you can decide that between you, this rule exists to protect others from offence.
“Do not post or discuss explicit, obscene or offensive material”
NRN is Gaming Club for all nationalities and all ages. Some content on the Internet is not suitable for children or would be considered offensive. Please use discretion when talking or posting within the NRN forums, servers or other mediums of communication.
“The NRN Supports International Copyright Laws”
The NRN does not condone the use of pirated software and services. Committing acts of software or media piracy and/or discussing such acts may result in the cancellation of your membership.
III. General Rules
To post in the NRN forums all members must abide by the Forum Rules which are pinned to the top of the main forum page.
Do not use an inappropriate member name. NRN reserves the right to remove any nickname it deems inappropriate for any reason.
Also regarding names only one name is permited per person in the fleet, multiple names are not allowed.
Impersonation of NRN Members is prohibited.
NRN does not allow any cheat or other program that allow players to gain an unfair advantage over others in game. Also no hacking or cracking is allowed and may be reported to your ISP and will result in the loss of your membership.
Please avoid excessive shouting (CAPSLOCK) or flooding (continuous posting of repetitive text) in NRN Forums or on our teamspeak/ventrilo server. Flooding is defined as any rapid or high-volume posting that interferes with other peoples' ability to converse.
Violations of these rules may result in a member being warned. If a warning is not heeded or is deemed serious enough the Admirals will decide on appropriate disciplinary action. If there are any problems to report, go to the main page and contact your divisions DIA officer, an admiral or your commanding officer.
IV. Miscellaneous
- We ask that all NRN members attempt to play or check in on the forum at least three times a week, we know it can be difficult at times but please try your best. If you are going to be unavailable for more then 8 days contact your CO and let them know. For a period of 3 weeks or more you should ask to be placed on leave.
- Only one NRN name is permitted per person.
- The NRN has meetings on mIRC every Saturday at 7:00PM Eastern US time. Server: Gamesurge Channel: #NRN. We ask that you make at least two meeting a month unless circumstances present otherwise, in which case you must contact your commanding officer.
- You can only be in the NRN and no other group/clan/fleet for all of the games that NRN plays. The only exception is if you play the game with another clan before NRN adopted it. IE: you were in the NRN and a CS clan before NRN added CS therefore you do not have to leave your old CS clan. Please notify an admissions officer of this.
