[The 1v1 Basic Flight Skills Manual - Part 1]
2v2: Agressor and wingman

 NRN Academy Graduation Curriculum

The material taught in the Academy can be roughly divided into three "lessons," which correspond to the skirmish files I use. These lessons are in some ways more like "chapters," for they contain a number of key concepts.

Lesson I

A. If you fly straight, you will die.

B. Divert shield power to engines to increase speed and maneuverability.

C. Set youre graphics to their lowest settings and set screen resolution to rather 800X600 or 640X480 this will decrease the games lag

D. Do not ram a barge with a canoe.

E. Pass close to the opponent and turn at 1/3 throttle.

F. Watch your speed and lead the target while behind the opponent.

 Lesson II

A. Link your lasers on approach; make your shots count

B. Dodge around, keeping the opponent on forward screen.

C. Only pass across the line to fire quickly; do not remain there.

D. Ramming same ship-type can be useful when you are damaged or hosting.

E. Low shield and laser settings increase maneuverability.

F. Turn using the F11 and F12 (9 and 0 in XvT) power presets.

 Lesson III (Team)

A. Until both pilots are quite advanced, a team of two consists of pilots with two different jobs.

B. The generally better of the two plays the Aggressor, who does most of the killing.

C. The other pilot (wingman) helps the aggressor by attacking the aggressor's attacker or the one the aggressor is not dealing with, or distracting the opponents, and evading, making targets for the aggressor.

D. The team should make use of wingman commands to communicate (Shift-A and Shift-E).

E. Do not "trade kills" with the oppents; kill without dying.

F. Think of every death as a mistake that could have been avoided.

 Connection Matters!

* Connection is important, but not all-important.

* 8 player games only work on VERY good hosts with other good connections.

* Red latencies will only work on 1v1, and then only sometimes.

* Packet loss is a worse problem than latency, but not all packets are "real."

* In big games, host usually has a slight advantage.

* In 1v1, host almost always has quite a disadvantage (reason for 5/5).

* Good luck out there pilots! Read the resources in the Bacta Tank as well; they are written by very knowledgeable people. See you on the Zone!
